We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children - ensuring that all pupils, staff and visitors are safe at all times.
At St. Wilfrid’s C.E. Primary School we aim to provide the best possible learning opportunities which meet all our children’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. In safeguarding children we are committed to ensuring that:
- The child’s needs are paramount;
- All professionals who come into contact with children and families are alert to their needs and any risks of harm (actual or potential) posed to the children;
- All professionals share appropriate information in a timely way and can discuss concerns about an individual child with colleagues and local authority children’s social care;
- High quality professionals are able to use their expert judgement to put the child’s needs at the heart of the safeguarding system so that the right solution can be found for each individual child;
- All professionals contribute to whatever actions are needed to safeguard and promote a child’s welfare and take part in regularly reviewing the outcomes for the child against specific plans and outcomes;
- All safeguarding/child protection policies and procedures follow the Warrington Local Safeguarding Children Board’s (WSCB) guidance and DfE guidance (Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018; Keeping Children Safe in Education, 2022)

Meet our Safeguarding Team
Operation Encompass
Our school participates in a Police-led initiative called Operation Encompass, a scheme which will ensure that we can better support any child where a domestic incident has been reported to Police from their home.
Within every school a trained Key Adult is appointed – a trained Designated or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. The Key Adult receives information about abusive incidents directly via email from the police prior to the start of the next school day that the police have attended an incident of domestic abuse to which a child has been exposed. This timely knowledge enables a plan for appropriate support to be made for that child so that all interactions, from when the child first arrives at the school gates, are of a positive nature.
The initiative was launched county-wide at the beginning of 2015. It is active in all Warrington schools across the local authority and in a number of schools in the areas of Halton, Cheshire West & Chester and Cheshire East with success. Safe Use of Social Media
Protect yourself online:
- Only accept friend requests and other types of communication from people who you know and trust.
- Adjust your privacy settings so that you are in control of your profile and you know who is able to view it.
- Be aware that Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media usually have some form of age restriction; Facebook for example is 13 years and upwards.
- If you are unfortunate enough to become a victim of online bullying, be sure to block the communications from the person sending them to you and report them to the site administrators.
Advice for parents:
- Try to put the computer in an easy to see place in the home so that you can monitor what sites your child is visiting
- Check out the websites your child is using, just like you’d check out a school or a youth group they might visit. Have a look and make a judgement whether you think it is a safe environment for them to be involved in.
- Set up reasonable guidelines and limits for internet usage. Understand that it may be a big part of their life but that it needs to be regulated
- Explain to your children why it is important for them never to give out personal details or post pictures of themselves publicly, just like you would when you explain to them not to talk to strangers
