Welcome to Year 1

Our topics this year are:

  •        New Beginnings
  •        In the woods (The Gruffalo)
  •        Imagination Station (Whatever Next!)
  •        Noah’s Ark
  •        Who Lives Here?
  •        Eddie’s Garden
  •        What’s In Grappenhall?

Forest School is on alternate Fridays. Letters are sent home with the dates. Please let us know if you require a further copy.

A big change for our children is that they need to bring their own snack from home for morning break. This must be in line with the school’s health snack policy. Suggestions include: breadsticks, cheese, fruit, plain rice cakes and plain crackers. They will also need a water bottle with a sports top (to avoid spills). The bottle must only be filled with fresh water.

In year 1 we try to develop the children’s self-organisation skills and we encourage  them to be responsible for their own jumpers, cardigans, coats and other belongings.

Homework is as follows:

Reading: at least three times a week and please note it in the planner. Please bring your planner and book every day, even if it does not need changing.

Spellings: are given out on Tuesdays to be returned for a spelling test on Monday.

Maths: is sent home on alternate Tuesdays to be returned the following Monday.

In the Summer Term, the children will bring home a Talk for Writing homework, which is designed to encourage the children to talk in sentences, ready for longer pieces of writing in class (no writing at home is required!).
